The Long Slow Goodbye...with Live Recordings

Hey there loyal Hutson fans who've journeyed back over to this website/blog! As you'll notice, we've changed our URL to www.hutsonmusic.com - That's due to 2 things:

1. We chose not to renew our domain name of 'hutsonrock'

2. And we decided after the fact that, if nothing else, this site was a nice piece of history for us and any fans who wanted to look at it from time to time.

Thus, the new domain name.... Now this also allows us to put up old archival stuff if we want to, as a trip down memory lane from time to time.

Which brings me to the point - If you never got a chance to see a Hutson show, then we have some cool recordings for you below.... We were able to find some old recordings from gigs at the White Eagle and mix them down for your listening pleasure.
Now, before listening, you have to understand that these recordings come from a small handheld 2 mic recorder placed (roughly) near the sound booth at the White Eagle and literally right behind a crowd of people, so these are definitely a shining example of imperfect live bootleg recordings.
However, what I felt upon listening back to these songs - amidst the audience banter, occasional muffed lyrics, and a couple of wrong notes... (or jazz, as they call it)...  was a sense that this really is exactly what every Hutson show was.  Sometimes brilliant, sometimes sloppy... but always real.
Also amongst these recordings, are the only recorded versions of "Saturdays Gone", "Burn It Down", and "Letter to My Brother." These three songs were just about fleshed out in our live sets and would have been recorded for the next album.... So in that regard, these songs are a moment in history of what might have been if the band had continued.

And yeah... Although the recording quality isn't the best, I think these recordings really are a picture of what Hutson was. We hope you enjoy listening to these songs as much as we did playing them. Thank you all again for the countless shows...and for listening.

The End Is Nigh...

Well, for those of you who keep track of things on Facebook.... (or those that know us personally)... this may be old news. But for those of you not in the know, (or who would like a little more info), our little band is going on an extended hiatus after our upcoming (and final) show on Friday, September 2nd at McMenamin's White Eagle.

First of all, I would like to clear the air on this a bit.
This wasn't one of those super-dramatic "we've been doing this for X amount of years and we haven't made it yet, so let's just call it"-type situations. On the contrary, we were actually seeing a good upswing - more specifically, an offer from the fantastic booking folks at the White Eagle to curate first Thursday nights, starting in October of this year.
Also, it was really never about trying to "make it" for us. We just wanted to play nice venues for folks who might dig the songs we wrote.

But as life has a habit of doing, when one door closes another one opens... (or insert whatever lame anecdotal phrase you might prefer here________________________________)...
And in our case, several doors opened all around the same time. Along with the White Eagle offer, there came several fantastic "real world" job offers for at least two of members, and an impending move for myself out to Walla Walla in order to complete my doctorate. Thus, a 3.5 hour drive weekly for band practices became a pretty unlikely possibility.

So, we all had to make the grown-up decision to put Hutson on an indefinite hiatus after one last show.
It's as simple as that.

Second of all, as this final show is coming up pretty quick now, I, (and the rest of the band, of course), would like to thank everyone who has ever come to our shows, bought our albums, or simply just listened to our songs. You've all been an integral part of why we continued to make music and play shows, and your support and good vibes have been greatly appreciated by all of us in Hutson.
So once again... Thank you!

So, let's make a night of it at the world-famous McMenamin's White Eagle Saloon next Friday night, September 2nd! We'll have our friends Benson Jones opening the night for us, and then we're going to play all the "hits" and some new ones for you guys - and it's going to be a fantastic way to say goodnight and good-bye.

The only thing we're not going to miss is our sweaty-stanky practice space at Audio Cinema in the dead heat of the summer... Cheers!

Post-Show Recap and Future News!

Well, it's certainly been awhile since we've updated the ol' website/blog here... So, here we go!
First things first - A big resounding "Thank You!" to everybody who came out to Friday night's show at the White Eagle.

We had an amazing time and we were so glad you all could be apart of it. So again, "Thank you!"

One of my personal favorite parts of the night was the first live performance of two new songs, "Saturdays Gone" and "Burn It Down"... And it was super-encouraging to hear you guys' great feedback on how those went... So, another thank you for sticking around to catch the new material!
In the next month or two, we'll be taking a little break for our families, children, etc... in order to celebrate the holidays and work on some more new material.

BUT.... Not before we play one last show of 2015...
Thus, our final show of the year will be at Camas, Washington's uber-cool A Beer At A Time, on Saturday, December 12th.

It's going to be a pretty sweet two-band bill with our friends,  Evergreen Way, opening for us. And we'll be doing a full-on rock show, (a bit different from the acoustic shows we've done previously at this cool little venue).
As with our previous shows at A Beer At A Time, there will be NO COVER - so stick it on your calendars guys, it's going to be a most excellent night!!

We'll have more details on time, etc... for this last show of the year, so stay tuned on the site here, or on Facebook!

Also, the amazing photos throughout this post are the work of Mike Powers, Sarah Almeida, Scott Tetz, Jen Larson, and Danny the sound-guy
- respectively. Thank you for letting us use you photos!

And for those of you who care, the setlist from the White Eagle show is as follows... Cheers!

New Songs, New Shows...

Alright... As summer keeps winding down, we've got a couple of shows coming up - and we're back at it - writing a batch of songs to throw in our live shows.
Over the past few weeks, instead of practicing in our sweltering, hot practice space down at Audio Cinema, we've been practicing up on Andy's rooftop - working on song structures and integrating Samir into our songwriting and things are sounding awesome! We're taking an older song of ours called "Burn It Down" and rewriting and buffing up the edges of it, while another new song
(tentatively titled) "Saturdays Gone" is shaping up to be probably one of the key tracks on the next LP we put together. We've also begun work on a song that was left off of "From A Transistor Radio" called "Broken Record"  - we're breathing new life into that one...
Also, we had the opportunity to meet Benjamin Parisot up on the roof of Andy's apartment building, and he has been gracious enough to do a couple of awesome photo sessions of us as we delve into these new songs. All the pictures in this blogpost are his work, so check him out at www.benjaminparisot.com
Also, a bit of news on "tour dates" (if you will)...  We have a show lined up for Monday, July 27th
at McMenamin's White Eagle Saloon. We'll be opening the night for Alpha Rev and Jared and the Mill! It's going to be a sweet night of acousticness... So start your week off right and come on down to the White Eagle - we'll be starting things about 8pm.
We have another show lined up for Saturday, September 5th at Ash Street Saloon. This one's gonna be our loud, rock and roll show... And since we haven't had one for awhile, we're itching to melt some faces! So, break out that leather jacket and stick it on your calendar - cause it's gonna be a  punk rock gig... We'll be joined by the newly reunited Donerail and the Goodsons....

As we get more shows lined up, we'll be keeping you posted.... So, until then  - take it easy!

Another big thank you to Benjamin Parisot for some amazing photography work!!

Acoustic Show #3: A Beer at a Time - Camas Washington

So, here we are. A week past our final, third acoustic show since March..... And it was a hell of a time.
Last Saturday, we played to a packed house of locals and awesome folks who made the trip into Camas, WA to hear our latest acoustic set - made all the more special by the return of our drummer Andy. We were totally stoked to play in front of all you wonderful folks who made it out!
Unfortunately, in all the fun... we forgot to get a scattering of photos.. Luckily, I've stolen the following fantastic pic from Sarah Almeida to at least give you a taste of what last Saturday looked like:
We had an absolutely AWESOME time last week, and over the course of the other 2 acoustic shows we did over the past few months. We've met a slew of awesome people as well... And we're excited to announce that we're in the process of booking our next string of rock and roll shows, (to counteract all the acousticness... ;-)
But again, we would like to say thank you for all of the support, and we look forward to sharing our next bunch of old-school rock shows with you in the months to come! So, stay tuned.... there's a hell of a lot more coming!
And also, a big thank you to Sarah Almeida for allowing us to 'steal' her picture.. ;-)

And of course... Here's the setlist from last Saturday night, June 13th, 2015:

The Last Day of Echo Donut Lounge.... (Acoustic Show #2)

Well, it was an awesome Saturday morning this past weekend in Washougal, Washington at the now closed Echo Donut Lounge.
We played our second in a series of acoustic shows at this cool little shop, and I must say, we're sad to say good-bye to such an awesome little place.  We had a fair amount of folks out who've seen our more recent shows this year, and a few who haven't had a chance to see us live before.
Plus, we got a chance to play in a stage area, while being flanked by old-school vinyl, used CD's, and musical equipment... Definitely my kind of stage!
So, first off... A wonderful thank you to all the folks who made the trip up, (or over), to Washougal to catch this mid-morning show. And big thanks to everybody at Echo Donut Lounge for having us on their last day of business.
And, of course... The donuts were AMAZING! We had some awesome coffee and perused the vinyl selection after our set.... I went home with the Jam's "The Gift", the Boomtown Rats' "The Fine Art of Surfacing", and the Eno/Hyde album "High Life."
Tony snagged the new J. Mascis album, and Samir found a tattered old LP of the soundtrack to "The Graduate"... Overall, some pretty sweet music pickings..
And, being an all-ages show, it was nice to have folks who brought their kids to hang out, listen to some tunes, and enjoy a nice, sunny day..
So, overall, Acoustic Show #2 was a success as well... We're prospectively looking at doing Acoustic Show #3 in mid-to-late May, possibly with our drummer back in tow! So, stay tuned for more news in the next couple of weeks.
And again, Thank you all for coming out this last weekend... And thank you, Echo Donut Lounge for just being an awesome place - way ahead of it's time! We'll miss you!

Oh, and for those of you interested - Here are the setlists from Saturday:

Acoustic Show #2 Announced!

Hey there everybody!
We've got our second acoustic show coming up this Saturday, April 4th.  We're going to be playing a slew of new and old songs at the Echo Donut Lounge, in Washougal! This show is going to be free and all ages, so feel free to bring the kids out.
We'll be playing at 11am and doing two acoustic sets there, so be sure to make this mid-morning trip to Washougal for some awesome donuts and to peruse their record selection... I hear they've also got old-school gaming consoles up and running there, (i.e. NES, SNES, Xbox, etc...), so come check this place out!
Also, we're in the planning stages for our 3rd acoustic show in May... We'll let you know when we've got that one booked, so check back here soon!
Until then, we hope to see all you wonderful folks out at Acoustic Show #2 this Saturday morning!
  Take it easy...
